Nokia charges for navigation instructions but gives you the first year free. Does HTC have 3G or 3.5G? HSDPA was the main reason for me getting N95-8GB.
I will do when I get a signal! Coverage map stops about 200 yards from our house :-( I'll do full N95-8GB review next week when I've used it in anger. So far thrilled to bits with it
Must check what throughput you can get on Bluetooth 2 vs USB when downloading by HSDPA.
@conoro I know the device might be new to you but I'd really like to hear what sort of battery life you are getting - while all of these apps are running? I know since going to my own SE K800i compared to XDA2Si that I know longer dread have a low battery by tea-time. There were of course measures that could be taken to increase battery life but in the XDA case driving such a large screen was the main issue I believe.
You will still drain the K800i (and its K850i lustworthy brother) before the end of a day if you snap and upload a birthday or similar celebration using a Java wifi app.
Battery life when sucking tons of stuff down through wifi is brutal. I was running web over wifi and Maps/GPS and Jaiku and Fring and Truphone. Barely got a couple of hours. Not surprising really. But ordered 2 spare batteries plus desk charger and nick-nacks for a tenner on eBay yesterday.
and in some cases, the N95 won't show its wifi icon even though you shut down the dodgy app that fired up the wifi in the first case. This is especially true with leaky Java applications on the N95.
is it the the windows mobile or the actual handset thats complex. I've had windows mobile 5 on a Treo and found it ok. @PatPhelan You still selling? What model?
@topgold the soft reset was the only way to be sure on the XDA. I never lost data but came close once or twice -(all backed up on a 2GB storage card) 1.2mpix camera no flash and video at 10 frames per sec. Did have issues with flash 6. IE.5.5 at times again soft reset sorted. Turning Bluetooth off and wifi also saves lots of power but defeats the purpose of having so much to hand.
we did some work a few years back on the first Wifi XDA - this solution allowed for 20 to attend a conference call with chat support - flash 6 and IE 5.5 optimised for the XDA screen (almost :) http://tinyurl.com/2zgww9 sadly the customer was terrified by the prospect :(

@conoro Will you make a LouderMini of the N95 HSDPA modem?

If you have N95 video clips to share, we have a need for community camvids in our creative multimedia mashup programme.

Last video clip I made was with N70 of Tom dancing at the NetVibes party in Paris. Sadly unwatchable and not only because of the dancing ;-)

A slow pan video of your Christmas setting would be nice to share in a Yuletide Log kind of way.

Hmmmph! I blame the appalling DJ!

I think the TomRaftery video should be archived as evidence of active Irish activity in Web 2.0

The DJ's rocked for ages with top class 80's music. I left when the french techno started.

HTC sounds good. Pat Phelan selling the one he got (different model) as its complexity even has him stumped.

As those on Jaiku were saying yesterday, that SBP article has at least one factual error.

[disclosure: I bought a K800i and gave it to grandparents as their first cameraphone and they love it.]

If a dodgy add-on app powers up the N95 wifi stack, the wifi may not shut down its seek mode even when the app is terminated.

Battery life is my main niggle, but I've gotten used to it. Chargers at home/office and car. Can also switch to BB curve when caught short outside.

Battery life is allways an issue but thats what spares are for.

You going to give Qik a go Conor? According to Mike Butcher it's open to European signups now.

I'll be trying Qik tonight. Kyte mobile worked perfectly on N95. Well impressed.
